Artist Statement

The intention of my work is to convey some of the environmental and familial influences on my evolution. My development as an artist arises from my heritage and the environment of my youth. Growing up in a rural community I found quiet, comfort, and true beauty in the rich colors and energy of the land of my ancestral mothers. I began my early watercolor years with landscapes filled with wild green fields of grasses, shapeless pine trees and cool blue cloudy skies.
The energies I draw upon come from values gifted to me by the strong women of my family. My work explores how the ever-changing landscape, its beauty, and influence interplays with my personal values as a woman.
The forms often evolving through an expression of a natural object such as a subtle bend in a tree, a blossom, or a single twisting branch. I ask myself what do I feel when look in the mirror? From where are these feelings born? These are the questions I strive to answer through my art.
